Das Sportjahr 2021 naht mit großen Schritten. „Unser Ziel ist es Graz von der Sportstadt zur sportlichsten Stadt Österreichs machen“, gibt Sportstadtrat Kurt Hohensinner das Ziel vor, „wir wollen die Grazerinnen und Grazer bewegen und für die positiven Wirkungen des Sports begeistern. Dafür braucht es aber auch die notwendige Infrastruktur.“ Einen wichtigen Meilenstein konnte die Stadt in diesem Zusammenhang vor Kurzem präsentieren, als die neue Eishalle B erstmals ihre Tore öffnete. „Damit verfügt Graz nun endlich über zwei Eisflächen, die während der ganzen Eissaison völlig witterungsunabhängig genutzt werden können. In Liebenau ist damit nun endgültig eine Sportwelt nach modernsten Standards entstanden. Schon seit der ersten Konzeption war es mir als Sportstadtrat ein besonderes Anliegen, dass anstelle der Freieisfläche eine vollwertige Eishalle realisiert wird, in der nun unzählige Sportlerinnen und Sportler eine echte Heimat finden werden. Rund 90 Eissportvereine profitieren, vor allem haben wir damit aber auch eine Top-Eisfläche geschaffen, die auch der Grazer Bevölkerung zur Verfügung steht.“
COVID-Regeln und neue SozialCard-Ermäßigung
Der beliebte Publikumseislauf ist damit nach 2-jähriger Pause ab Freitag, 23. Oktober wieder möglich. Das heißt einem ausgiebigen Training für das Sportjahr 2021 steht nichts mehr im Wege. „Als MCG freuen wir uns, dass auch in COVID-Zeiten Publikumseislauf und damit sportliche Aktivität in der Eishalle möglich ist. Herzlich Willkommen in der neuen Eishalle B“, freut sich Messe-Vorständin Barbara Muhr auf regen Besuch. Mit den aktuellen Vorgaben sind derzeit gleichzeitig 50 Personen auf der Eisfläche erlaubt. Mit einer Neuerung wartet Hohensinner in seiner Funktion als Sozialstadtrat auf: Für SozialCard-Besitzer gibt es eine Ermäßigung von 50 Prozent. „Der Sport entfaltet unglaublich viele positive Wirkungen, er ist sozial und integrativ. Mit dieser neuen Ermäßigung wollen wir noch mehr Grazerinnen und Grazern Freude am Eissport ermöglichen“, so Hohensinner abschließend.
